EM-500 Inline Chlorophyll-a Algae Sensor
The Pyxis EM-500 is an inline fluorometer that measures chlorophyll-a, the green pigment in living algae. Because only live cells fluoresce, the reading tracks the amount of growing algae in the water, so a problem can be seen and treated before it takes hold.
The sensor fits the ST-001 tee supplied with it, or hangs in a tank with the optional submersion adapter. It sends its reading to any controller through an isolated 4–20 mA output or RS-485 Modbus, and can be checked, cleaned and calibrated from a phone or computer with the uPyxis® app.
Models
- EM-500: 0.1 – 50 ppb chlorophyll-a
- EM-510: 0 – 500 ppb chlorophyll-a
Corrects for Colour and Turbidity
Coloured or cloudy water upsets most inline fluorometers. The EM-500’s optics and flow path compensate for colour up to 10 ppm (as iron) and turbidity up to 150 NTU, so the reading stays on the algae rather than on what else is in the water.

Ideal for Cooling Water & Algae Control
Algae foul cooling towers, heat exchangers and process water systems, and feed the bacteria that follow. The EM-500 gives a live measure of algae growth in industrial cooling and process water, so algaecide can be dosed when it is needed rather than on a timer. Where it drives dosing, the control system should still cap pump run time or alarm on high feed, in case heavy fouling lowers the reading.
