CHEMTROL® Safety Timer – Overfeed Protection

Protect your pool and your system with the built-in CHEMTROL® Safety Timer.

The Run-time Precaution Limit (also known as the Overfeed Safety Timer) is an essential safeguard that automatically shuts off chemical feeders if something goes wrong, such as:

🔹Sensor or electronics failure,

🔹Malfunction of a chemical feeder,

🔹Incorrect valving in the recirculation system,

🔹Manual override by untrained or unauthorised personnel,

🔹Depletion of the chemical supply.

How the Safety Timer Works

During normal operation, chemical feeders are only activated briefly — just long enough to correct chemical levels. Each time a feeder starts, the safety timer also starts.

– If the chemical level corrects before the set time limit, the timer resets to zero.
– If the feeder runs continuously past the set time, the controller immediately stops the feeder and triggers an overfeed alarm.

This ensures chemicals aren’t added for too long, protecting bathers, equipment, and the pool water balance.

Setting the Timer Correctly

Operators must set the time limits carefully, based on:

  1. Size of the pool or system (litres of water),
  2. Feed rate of the chemical feeders.

🔹In general, feeders should never need to operate for more than 3 hours — even during peak periods.
🔹Once tripped, the timer must be reset manually after the cause is investigated and corrected.

Why It Matters

The Safety Timer acts as a critical last line of defence against:

  • Dangerous chemical overfeeding,

  • Empty chemical tanks,

  • Malfunctions that could otherwise go unnoticed.

Default Setting: 15 minutes (adjustable anytime by the operator).
